This woman was such a talent. Rest in peace …

These are pretty much just pictures of MY GODCHILDREN when they, Peter and Yung-Mei came up to visit for 4th of July weekend. I love saying that, since that means as their Godfather, I now need to get a gaudy pinky ring for the kids to kneel down to and kiss, HAHHAA! But in all seriousness, if there’s one thing that’s truly made me happy since my Mom passed away – not the new place, not the nice weather, not the upcoming Bjork album and tour (HA!) – it’s these kids. Hopefully you’ll see why. If not, you will at least enjoy seeing Kay stab me. The most sincere thank you to Yung-Mei and Peter for the honor, and for letting me obsess over them. :)

If you don’t love this song, you are ridiculous, you hear me, son?
Oh Mr. Sprinkler, Mr. Sprinkler
Wet me for one, Mr. Sprinkler
I’m heatin’ high-five in a daze, no split
With a yawn I trip to the dawn
Out comes the bodies following the one idea
It’s clear, rattle to the roll
Hold back up the track, grab your rollerskates y’all
And let’s zip on by
Zip-a-de-doo-dah, let’s zip on by
Feed on a weed and we’re feeling high
Sun is on thick and the cheese is rollin’ quick
Come on, there’s no time to hide
Season is twist, spinning and winning
I think I’ve watched this clip about 20 times at this point and for whatever reason it just keeps getting funnier and funnier to me. It’s from that new 6-episode series Portlandia that just appeared on the Independent Film Channel (IFC) over the past few months. It’s just spot on, from Fred Armisen’s character performance to, I guess, it’s message? That’s probably not the right word for what I’m trying to say, but whatever. While we’re talking about IFC, how is that movies made by multi-million dollar companies, and make millions upon millions of profit, are somehow called “independent”? For instance, IFC plays Pulp Fiction every now and again. That was produced by Miramax, a huge company. Ok, sure not as big as Warner or Paramount, but they are huge, yeah? Is it just about that “independent spirit”, regardless of how much money is actually pumped into it to bring that to the screen? Eh, whatever. Anyway, watch this clip for a laugh. This blog is just full on OVER.

In 1984, Axel Foley tried to get a room at the Beverly Palm Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, in the American classic, Beverly Hills Cop. The first Beverly Hills Cop I’m talking about here, you know the one – where the Pointer Sisters and Bronson Pinchot finally had a cinematic zero degrees of separation. Hopefully you’ve seen it. Not having seen it is worthy of the House Un-American Activities Committee. Oh wait, that was abolished 9 years earlier. Well, whatever, not seeing this gem is a crime. Not having seen it again THIS YEAR is a crime. Either way you should be reminded of two beautiful moments from it. First is Eddie Murphy – portraying Alex Foley – trying to get that hotel room – and just being a comedic god. His delivery – the body language – IS THIS HEAVEN? The other – Patti Labelle’s song Stir It Up – is the 80′s in a nutshell – and BEAUTY in a nutshell. Put headphones on – TURN it Up – listen below the shiny 80′s pop surface. So many beautiful elements. If you don’t hear it, well, listen harder. Someone, please invent a time machine for me. Martinsburg, here I come.
It’s not that I’m afraid to die. I just don’t want to be there when it happens. – Woody Allen
